Yunus Emre (1238-1320) was a Sufi poet and mystic who greatly influenced Turkish literature. He studied under Sufi Master, Tapduk Emre, for 40 years and was deeply versed in 13th-century mystical philosophy, especially that of Rumi. His poems focus on divine love and human destiny, written in a simple, austere style using traditional Anatolian folk syllabic meter.
