Seldon Institute is a project of Seldon Woods Foundation. The Foundation is a family trust established in December 2021 to promote ideas and educational initiatives on Islam and Muslims.

Our Story

Founded in Seldon Woods, a subdivision in the Greater Chicagoland area, the Institute takes its name from its own point of existence—a particular position in space and time where it was conceptualized and formulated.

We provide a platform for thinkers, leaders, entrepreneurs, and artists to engage their work with new audiences within expert and public communities to facilitate a more relevant and nuanced understanding of Islam.

Seldon Institute is a collaborative space for ideas and educational initiatives that cultivate a practical understanding of Islam.

Our Mission

To spark critical thinking and innovative program design about Islam and Muslims through a robust and collaborative reexamination of the historical and textual expressions of the tradition, the myriad self-expression within contemporary Muslim communities, and the perception of global audiences.

Our Vision

To inspire a practical understanding and articulation of Islamic thought, values and experiences for contemporary audiences.

Our Philosophy

Authentic dialogue requires a shared commitment to diversity and a deep appreciation for freedom of expression and the inherent dignity of every human person. We uphold these pivotal values as foundational and indispensable to our mission.
