Özlem's Golden Cage

$225.00

This miniature piece is inspired by the old Turkish proverb, “Bülbülü Altın Kafese Koymuşlar, ‘Ah Vatanım Demiş’.” “They put the Nightingale in a golden cage; she said, ‘Oh, my homeland’.”

The Nightingale, Özlem, which means “longing” in Turkish, finds no comfort in the luxuries and conveniences of the material world offered to her. Her golden cage is juxtaposed by a visual of how she sees her homeland and how it feels to her—a paradise.

Size: 20 x 30-3/8
