Introduction to Art of Illumination
We are excited to announce a unique opportunity to join an immersive workshop on the Art of Illumination with Visiting Artist, Nebahat Pektas.
Islamic art of illumination, known as tadhhib تذهيب (Arabic) or tezhip (Turkish), is the intricate decoration of manuscripts— particularly the Quran—using gold leaf, gold paint, and vibrant pigments to create geometric and floral patterns. It translates to "ornamenting with gold" and is historically linked to Ottoman, Persian, and Arabic traditions, representing divine light and enhancing the sacredness of the text.
